CONSEQUENCE OF FAST FASHION IN FAMILY & INDIVIDUAL LIFE

Indians family waste too much of money in the name of weddings & religion. It's the biggest celebration where whole family do shopping. Each and every ritual different clothing is required. Buying those clothes and wearing them once is financial and wasteful dilemma. A family buy approx. 30 kg clothing each year. Only 15% is recycled or donated and rest goes directly to landfill. Previously we use to wear clothes for decade until the cloth has life . But nowadays we dnt do that. Each member buy new clothes for function. 

I belong to a joint Marwari  family where every year there is wedding sometimes one or one then one . Every time my entire family goes to shopping . Rather then wedding  festivals are meant for clothing. And yeah there is no reuse of clothing .Marwari family you know what each festival or functions means new clothing . Our lifestyle and consumption depends on society.


Fashion goes very fast fifty years ago woman had only two dresses. And today when I had open my cupboard I was speechless because for maintaining trend I had never thought I am hampering my environment .I realized I am living in western world where 52 season in fashion whereas one season for each week of the year . Brands offer cheap clothing which allows us to throw away clothes without thinking about the consequences . Purchasing new outfit makes unethical global citizen .Fast fashion Cheap clothing had made a cause of concern.

WHAT TO DO ?

1. Choose natural and friendly fibers to the soil. Choose sustainable fiber instead of rayon, modal or viscose. Choose fibers with low water consumption such as linen, recycle fibers etc.

2. But less, buy better quality buy clothes made of renewable energy .

3.Donate clothes to charity, needy people .

4.Looking after your clothes to make them last longer! Careful washing according to the label and proper storage means that you can continue to enjoy them.

    I never knew about marwari culture and its beliefs. But Its sad that people engage in so much of mindless consumerism.

    I seriously didn’t knew so many clothes go to waste just because of wedding functions.

    The amount of fashion waste that is generated in India just because of weddings is huge. It is high time we start repeating clothes with confidence. Greater the life of a garment, the better it i s for our planet!

    Complete agree with you on the wedding point......every time when there is a wedding people need new clothes why they can't wear their old clothes after their first time wear.....after studying this module I realized that I m also wrong in this thing but I m going to try overcome this thing
