FAST FASHION THE GOBAL IMPACT
GOBAL PROBLEM= FAST FASHION.
Fashion is second most polluting industry in the world. Fast fashion is a major contributor to the world's clothing waste problem. Many of us give our old clothes to charity or drop them in a store take-back bin, but you might be surprised to learn most of it is sold and can end up in the landfill. The industry accounts for 20% of global waste water. 85% of textiles are disposed of instead of being recycled. To produce fabric, a lot of water is used for washing, dyeing, bleaching and cleaning the finished product.
The waste water is contaminated with toxic chemicals and dye colors and this goes back into the sea affecting marine life Synthetic fabrics life. . Synthetic fabrics are non – biodegradable. When we wash them in our washing machines, tiny pieces of microplastic fibers get washed into the ocean and our fish end up eating these plastic pieces. Washing clothes, meanwhile, releases 500,000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles, states . Textile recycling implies breaking down a garment into its base fibers, but in reality the process is unfeasible. Only one percent of textile waste is actually recycled. . The vast majority, however, is either burned, releasing carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and methane gas into the atmosphere, or thrown in landfills.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
1.Choose clothes made in countries with stricter environmental regulations for factories EU, Canada, US etc.
2.Choose organic fibers and natural fibers that do not require chemicals to be produced.
